Danae + Jackson

This past summer I had the great pleasure of being a part of this gorgeous wedding that took place at Maple Bay Manor just outside of Duncan. The bride had requested all white florals, and honestly initially I was a little hesitant due to my love of colour, but I found myself surprisingly in love with the challenge and beauty of working with only white flowers. Instead of looking at colour theory, I was instead drawn to texture and shape, which is something I consider normally, but it was my main focus for this wedding.

All of the flowers for this wedding were locally grown. Many from local farms here on Vancouver Island including: Busy Bee Farm and Florals, Still Wild, Cartref Gardens, City Fields Flower Farm and Mt. Newton. The only item imported was the eucalyptus, besides that all the greens were also local.

There was a very talented group of vendors that came together for this wedding, with Emma McCormick leading the way as the wedding planner.

Iā€™m also excited to share that I entered some photos from this wedding and was a finalist in the best wedding florals category at the Vancouver Island Wedding Awards.

This wedding was stunning in so many ways and I had a number of connections to the wedding including close friends and high school classmates, so it was lovely to be a part of.

All photos are by Maiko Media, and the following are the handles of the vendors involved:

Spring Bouquet Workshop

At the end of May we had our first Bouquet Workshop! It was held outdoors in a beautiful property out in Saanichton and we had wonderfully sunny weather. 12 participants attended and we chatted and learnt together using 100% locally grown flowers from right here in Victoria. The lovely Kim from Busy Bee Farm and Florals supplied all of the flowers, which included many spring favourites like peonies, ranunculus, anenomes, foxglove, snapdragons and more!

All the photos were taken by the incredibly talented Rachael Alexandra Co.  ( www.rachaelalexandra.co )

Thank you to all the participants! Cannot wait for the next one !!

Rachel + Nathan

Although it feels like summertime is very far away (another season to be exact), I decided to blog this gorgeous August wedding from last summer. The wedding took place on the bride's uncle's beautiful farm near Island View beach. In consulting with Rachel, the bride, she had originally thought of all white flowers for the wedding, but after my encouragement, I added some subtle peach and blush tones for more depth and texture. I love how it all came together with the grey tones of the bridesmaid dresses and the outdoor setting. Along with the bouquets, boutonnieres and flower girl crowns, I also created the eucalyptus garland for the tables. Overall, it was one of my favourite weddings of the summer and Eva Cherneff Photography captured it so well. (https://www.evacherneffphotography.com/)

Since this wedding, the maid of honour passed away in a tragic car accident. She is remembered as a kind, loving and funny person who truly cared for others. In memory of Hannah.

Thank you again to Rachel + Nathan.

Styled Shoot

Last fall, I teamed up with the talented Brenna Louise, and some other local businesses for a styled shoot here in Victoria. Alexa, the model and I had met a few weeks ago at a clothing exchange and had chatted about my business and also Brenna's amazing photography. So when Brenna was here in town, we connected and the results were this beautiful styled shoot.

I was inspired by the buttery yellows of the cafe au lait dahlias, and the peachy/ yellow gradients of the dahlias in choosing the colour palette for this bouquet. I also pushed myself to create a bouquet with minimal greenery and lots of texture and I love how this can be seen in the black and white images. Flowers used were: dahlias, vendela roses, queen anne's lace, carnations, yarrow, ranunculus, delphinium, rosemary, statice, and some eucalyptus.

Vendors involved in this shoot were:

Headpieces + Veil by Olivia the Wolf: www.oliviaheadpieces.com

2017!

Last month, I celebrated the one year birthday of Alicia's Florals. It was an amazing first year and I am so excited to see what this next year holds! From wreath workshops, bouquets, Valentine's day to seven weddings, it was a year full of many amazing events. I am so thankful for all the awesome people that I met through Alicia's Florals, including farmers, suppliers and clients!

I want to do a special shout out to those people who make my job possible: Mt. Newton Floral, Busy Bee Farm & Florals, Grace Floral, Still Wild, City Field Flower Farm, Rachael Alexandra Co, Katie Mills Photography, Evacherneff Photography, Megan Edelman Photography and more.

Some of my favourite moments of the past year include my first wedding as Alicia's Florals, picot night markets, flower subscriptions, wreath workshops, picking local flowers and ending off the year with a wedding on New Year's Eve!

I'm ready for you 2018!
